This dirty martini is elegant, savory, cold and delicious.
Made with 3 ingredients – gin, vermouth and olive brine, but it’s the method that makes this drink great.
“Happiness is…finding two olives in your Martini when you’re hungry.” – Johnny Carson
Though I prefer a gin martini, you can also use your favorite vodka for this cocktail.
When using gin, it is better to stir rather than shake as gin can be “bruised”.
But as my motto in life, try it for yourself and see if you taste a difference between a shaken and a stirred martini.
The key to the perfect martini are 3 things.
One, use high quality ingredients that are new and have been properly stored.
Two, everything should be chilled, including your martini glass!
Three, ratio is everything so use the proper tools like a cocktail jigger and don’t eye-ball it.
For a dirty martini, it’s best to use dry vermouth and a dry gin – if you are using gin.
As vermouth is an aromatized, fortified wine flavored with various botanical it needs to be stored in the refrigerator.
Any wine-based liquor should be stored in the refrigerator as it can easily spoil with warm temperatures.
It’s also a good idea to store your gin or vodka in the freezer for the best outcome.
To chill the glass, you can simply place it into the freezer for 10 minutes or fill the glass with ice and cold water while you make the drink.
My three favorite dry gins are The Botanist, Nolet and Hendricks.
For the olives and olive brine, it is essential to use an olive that you know and love.
Personally, the only olive that I like to use is castelvetrano olives.
These vibrant green olives are buttery and perfectly salty!
